How to Block an Annoying Number on Android

You can block a phone number on Android with or without using a third-party app.


Keep in mind that blocking a number will block calls and text messages from that number. With that said, let's see the different ways to do this task in detail.
Block a Phone Number without Third-Party App

If your Android device has inbuilt call blocker, then you can use it to block a call.

With that said, let's see the steps to block.


Open the "Phone" app. Make sure you're in the "Call History" tab.


Tap the call from the number that you want to block.


Now, you can see the "Block number" option. Tap it.




In the confirmation popup, hit "Block."



That's it. The number is blocked successfully.

Keep in mind that from now on, you will not receive a call and text from the phone number you've blocked.

If the number you've blocked tries to call you, they'll be notified that "the number is currently busy" and that call will not reach your device. If the block number send SMS to you, that one will not reach your Android device.

To View Blocked Numbers

If you want to see the blocked numbers, then here are the steps:


Open "Phone" app.


Hit the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top. Tap "Settings."


Tap "Call blocking" option.



Now, you can see the numbers you've blocked.



Note: If you wish, you can block a number directly from the "Blocked numbers" screen (see above screenshot). To do that, tap the "Add a Number" option, input the phone number that you want to block and then hit "Block."

To Unblock a Blocked Number

Use the above steps and find the blocked number you want to unblock.

Hit the "Cross" icon beside that number. In the confirmation popup, tap "Unblock."



That's all. The number is unblocked successfully.
Block a Phone Number using Third-Party App


Install and open the TrueCaller app.


Once you went through the setup, you can see all your calls on the app.


Now, long press the call from the number that you want to block.


Hit the "Block" icon at the top.




In the popup, choose what is it (Business or Person) and then hit "Block."




If you've already made Truecaller as the default SMS app, then that's all. From now on, both the call and text from the number will get blocked.


If you've not made Truecaller as the default SMS app, then you'll see the following popup, where you'll be asked whether you want to block messages or not. If you want to, hit the "Block" option. Otherwise, hit the "Not Now" option.




If you chose "Not Now," then that's all. The call from that number will be blocked and the text will not. If you chose "Block," then you'll see the following popup, where you'll be asked to change Truecaller as the default SMS app. Tap "Yes" in the popup.



That's it. All done. From now on, both the text and call from that number will be blocked.

If the blocked number tries to call you, they'll be notified that "the number is busy right now" and you'll receive a notification about that call and it'll be in the Truecaller call log (It'll be in the Phone app call log if you've not set Truecaller as your default Phone app).

If you want not to get notified about these calls, follow the below step:

Tap Hamburger icon (three vertical lines) > Settings > Block > Notification for blocked calls option.

The messages from the blocked number will be sent to the "Spam" section of "Messages" in the Truecaller app, and you'll not get the notification for those messages. If you want to get notified, then follow the below step:

Tap Hamburger icon (three vertical lines) > Settings > Block > Notification for blocked messages option.

You can change the way the Truecaller treats the call from the blocked number and here's how:

Hit the icon beside Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top.

Tap "Block settings." Tap "How to block calls."

In the popup, you can see two options - "Reject Automatically" (this option is the default one, and it will reject the call from the blocked number automatically) and "Ring Silent" (this option will let the call ring silently). Tap the one you prefer.



To View Blocked Numbers

To view the numbers you've blocked, do the following - tap the icon beside the Overflow Menu (three vertical dots) at the top. Tap "My block list" option.



Now, you can see all the numbers you've blocked.



To Unblock a Blocked Number


Go to the "My block list" where you can see all blocked numbers (use the above steps).


Hit the "-" icon beside the blocked number you want to unblock.


In the confirmation popup, tap "Yes."
