2018 New iPad Pro with 1TB of Storage Boasts 6GB of RAM

Throwing in a large amount of RAM has been a common move for Android device manufacturers, while Apple has notoriously kept things a bit more reserved in the past.

For instance, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both offer 4GB of RAM. That’s compared to the 3GB of RAM available in the iPhone XR (and the iPhone X from last year). But it looks like Apple is ready to start ramping things up a bit, at least that’s what it looks like based on what was discovered by developer Steve Throughton-Smith on Tuesday. He published on Twitter that he discovered, via Xcode, that the iPad Pro with 1TB of built-in storage has 6GB of RAM.

If that is indeed the case, that is the most RAM that Apple has included in its mobile devices to date, even for its Pro-level iPad lineup.

Here’s the tweet from Troughton-Smith:

The new iPad Pros both have 6GB of RAM, according to Xcode (technically the kCoreThemeMemoryClass enum doesn't map 1:1 but CoreUI only knows about 6GB devices so the iPad must be 6GB if not any prior value)

However, the RAM situation gets a bit different as you go down the new iPad Pro lineup. While the 1TB models, both the 11- and 12.9-inch variants, boast 6GB of RAM, if you start reducing the built-in storage options then the RAM goes down as well. The other models (64GB, 256GB, and 512GB) are all equipped with 4GB of RAM, which puts those units right in line with the previous iPad Pro models — as far as RAM is concerned, at any rate.

The new iPad Pro models adopt an all-screen design similar to what Apple introduced with the iPhone X, shrinking the bezels around the glass. The new tablets boast the A12X Bionic processor under the hood, a TrueDepth camera system with Face ID, a new Smart Connector, support for wirelessly charging the new Apple Pencil that can magnetically connect to the side of the tablets, and no physical Home button.

Are you planning on picking up the new iPad Pro? If so, which model are you going with? Apple is charging $1,549.00 for the 11-inch model with 1TB of built-in storage, while the 12.9-inch variant retails for $1,749.00 for the massive amount of storage. Of course, prices go higher if you go with the Cellular option.
